Teen Perspective: Dressing Modestly
Share
Hi guys, Callie taking over!! đź’–
As a teenage girl who is almost a senior in high school, I know exactly what it feels like to see questionable clothing become the new norm. Sometimes it can feel like a competition to see who can wear the most revealing or inappropriate outfit.
I often find myself wondering, “Why?” And when I ask, I hear things like, “Modesty is only for old people.” But as a Christian woman, I believe modesty isn’t about looking weird or outdated—it’s about honoring God, reflecting confidence, and carrying ourselves with grace.
The Bible reminds us in 1 Timothy 2:9 that women should “dress modestly, with decency and propriety.” (NIV) But biblical modesty goes deeper than clothing choices—it begins in the heart. It’s about how we present ourselves and the spirit in which we do it.
Modesty isn’t about following a long list of rules or wearing clothes that make you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. In fact, I believe God created beauty! It’s about choosing clothing that makes you feel confident, comfortable, and aligned with your values. You can absolutely love fashion, feel beautiful, and still dress in a way that honors your faith.
True beauty shines brighter than any outfit—it comes from kindness, confidence, and a heart rooted in faith. As it says in 1 Peter 3:3–4, beauty is found in “the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
So, my final word to all the girls out there who may be struggling with this: You are beautifully and wonderfully created. Don’t change how you dress to impress someone or simply fit in. You are unique, beautiful, and deeply loved by God. 🤍
“She is clothed in strength and dignity.” — Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)Â
